In a film camera lens

In surprise parties thrown

In torn Jean jackets

In braided hair

In sweat shed in summer

In feet wet with dew

I put in a siren and turned it on mute

And in attendance of these times,

I’m sorry if I seemed unable to move

Unable to speak

Unable to breathe

It’s not unlike the time you called my name

And it’s not unlike the time you pulled away

It’s knowing you aren’t pitiful and worthless
