We’re gonna be late as it is

The car is on our street

It takes a while to get there

The same as getting anywhere

So up and on your feet

I climb the stairs

They crumble one by one

And I start to feel on edge

I brush your hair

But the rest of you is gone

And I awake in my own bed

But you have to be invited in

You can’t show up just when you feel like it

I thought I was in charge of my dreaming

It don’t seem fair

Stop playing around with my heart

I’m trying to get it right

My days are full of progress

But that all seems to be erased

When you sneak back in at night

I wake at two

I surface from the deep

And I try to swim away

What can I do

A man needs his sleep

And the morning’s far away

But you have to be invited in

You can’t show up just when you feel like it
