Woke to a voice

It was distand, but distinct

It called my name twice

For an instant, I think

I rose from my sleep

As water might flow

Lurked in the shadows

I was moving so slow

It called me not by earthly name

It knew my trespasses and shame

It sweetly sang to me a song

I thought it’d last forever long

Caught in the light

Taking my breath

It came for my life

The one after death

Oh the night is so cold

The day is dry and dead

Felt the flow on my skin

«Welcome,» is all he it said

So fetch the pitcher by the bed

Pour it slowly on my head

And rid my mind of idle thoughts

I thank him for what he has brought
