i called as soon as i could

to say that it’s okay

and words jumped from my mouth

i wouldn’t normally say

you don’t need me to relax

you’re only building fires

to smoke your clothes and your hair

until your pillow cries

of bad decisions

i can’t stand this

cause tangled hair

is all that’s left

and other cares are left behind

i listen hard

because i know i should
