if we were to stay here

would it really be so bad

sitting here all afternoon

well you’d probably lose your job

the world would gradually turn round

aeroplanes fly by

every three minutes or so

birds land on the water

it’s already time to go

why’s it always time to go?

when I really want to stay

I always seem to be walking away

it’s plain to see

we’ve got different reasons

to be stealing beauty

I know it should feel wrong

but it seems right to me

we’ll swim out to the island

a silver comet in the sky

they’ll come and try to find us

still that’s where we’re going to hide

the boats are banging in the dock

when I really want to stay

I always seem to be walking away

it’s easy to see

there’ll be someone for you

who won’t let you hang around with me

but until that day

I’ll spend my time

just thinking up ways to be stealing beauty
