In the soft light a lady lay

By a vale in the woodland deep

With the sunshine’s golden ray

Shinin' down on the river deep

Took my boat across the waves

With my hopes strong in my grasp

Might I see the silver in the rain

Might I be with you at last

Like faithful swallows they come

With a winter that’s closin' in

When no wind no cold can numb
