Half Awake - Needlepoint

Just awake after sleep

In that half unconscious deep

Anxiety rises from its shelter

And seeps into my calm

But it fades out with the rising light

Withdraws to its hiding place

It leaves no trace and out of sight

I leave it there

As if I didn’t care

So it goes, a life with blinders

No one’s hurt, and no one’s free

I’m a wall against my fire

So I don’t need to fear

I’ve locked up my desire
