I thought that I could but now I know that I couldn’t

I thought that what I gave to you I would get back for me

I thought that you would but now I see that you wouldn’t

Love can’t live with your vanity

I thought you would understand me but you didn’t

I want what you want how can we get it and not compete

Wanted to see the soft inside you but you hid it

Why you so afraid to be naked in front of me

Where can I find protection

From the truth in my reflection

Survive the pain of rejection

From you that looks like me

Inflicted with the infection

Of all the shame in our connection

Yet dying for the affection

That we don’t get to eat

I thought that what I wanted was something that I needed

But what I’ve been giving is something that I can’t take

I thought what I needed was something that I wanted

But the tears that I’m crying now I could never fake

You can say that I ran but can’t say you’re prepared

To come running after me cause I’m worth the chase

You can say that you’re angry but won’t say you were scared

The patterns of my indiscretions are my mistakes
