Mitten - Hampshire

Every dream conceived inside my brain

Compared to my bank statement and my age

Should leave a pit in an optimists stomach

And fade all their positives away

Growing up in a 36 square mile grid

In the southeast corner of a mitten

A prize package of drama and rumors and arguments

I’m too old now to give a shit

This life shouldn’t be defined by punching in and out of time

Just breathe and race your heart

And don’t rewire it from the start

Only moving forward gets you far

This damned winter we all share it drags on too long

Like the numbness and the rotten seeds found in top 40 songs

A summers breeze placed effectively can adjust its course and mold to your body

Round your curves and your geometry

It’s a thought like this that makes me sing

Misguided by the glow of fireflies

The clockwork of their design and grace with which they fly

Don’t lose your sight of how you feel inside

Soon summers grasp will hold you tight

And you will feel alive
