Lovelorn, he’s torn between

The path of resistance

That track traverse much travelled in the grey

And that other tougher way

The only road that leads home

And from which all those sad lost souls will stray

Lovelorn, he turns to

He’s coming in the wild wind

In hope that this dark feeling will rescind

Every bouquet’s sad today

As Hallmark marks his sorrow

With sentimental tidings

That sting a heart so hollow

Lovelorn, he drinks 'til awn

Shrouded in his midnight

And every shot’s a rocket to the grave

He’s pining for that little girl

Some uncouth Lolita

Who cracks his heart just like an egg

Then gets busy with the beater

Lovelorn, he is drawn

To neon lights and downtown

City bars and taverns on the way

But all those legs round silver poles

And not enough distraction

To pull him from the quagmire

'Cos his heart is still in traction

Lovelorn, he is borne

Upon the wings of madness

Oh, what a number she has done on him

With her looks come hither

How quickly they did wither

Now the prospect of salvation’s looking slim

Lovelorn, with that crown of thorns

Embedded in his cell phone

He’s checking for a message every day

But no message ever comes
