I won’t be broken by the pounding of this world machine

I’ve got to follow through, on a lifetime’s dream

I’m choking from the tightening of this endless red tape

But I’m prepared to wait, till the day it breaks

You might slow me down a little, but it’s only ever going to mean

That it takes a little longer to realise the dream

And this vision just gets stronger through adversity

But nothing on this earth will ever stop me

But we’re still tearing the good things down

Still throwing it all away

I used to love this town

Not anymore, not today

We are sending the good guys out

We should be making the bad ones pay

When money’s the only sound

Anyone hears today

I lost my woman to a sinner with a bigger car

You know he talked real clever, «say you don’t have to stay where you are»

That’s when I knew I’d lost before I’d even started to fight

But I believe in waiting till she comes home at night

When we are sending the good guys out

Why aren’t we making the bad ones pay

When money’s the only sound

Anyone’s hearing today

And I know I didn’t always think about you

I was busy taking on the world you said

If I’d only taken time out to be there for you

I wonder how a different ending might have read
