When the earth was newly forming and mankind had yet to be

Lived a mighty race of giant, strong of claw and sharp of teeth

They were swimming in the ocean 'til they crawled up from the sea

Then one day they started flying and they reigned the world supreme

Grandma’s sewing denim patches on the pants of destiny

At the dawning of an era, watching history repeat

It’s lookin' like the easy answer is to blame society for the wars

No they never saw it coming, though the signs were there to see

Now the earth is slowly warming and we’re chopping down the trees

To the children of tomorrow we hand down this legacy

Never tired of playing with matches, even crawling from the ashes — humanity

They were watching television, fixing cars and chasing dreams

Then somebody pushed a button and they vanished into steam

That they never saw it coming, they would swear it and believe
