Leaving my rock’n’roll life behind

I stepped back in the world of my home town

Dressed to kill for a class reunion

Driving around in my rented Lincoln

Bopping along to those rocking sixties sounds

Most of my friends were still around

But the town got smaller when the mill shut down

And some of them drifted off to bigger places

There’s a new stone soldier on the courthouse lawn

Because bobby got killed in Vietnam

And lately I been seeing the same old faces

Ain’t it kind of funny how every body’s changed but me

So here’s a little blast from the past for the class of '63

Hey baby turn your lights down low

They’re playing our song on the radio

Shaking my chevy with the back seat dance

Living by love and loving by chance

Johnny was voted class president

The girls just swooned everywhere he went

And seven wives later he’s become the divorce court king

And Donny boy sure could sling a towel

He’d murder the ref if he called a fowl

And now buying radio stations is his thing

Rocking Dave could really put on some moves

If you scratched his record he’d dance on your bruise

Now he teaches kids the Arthur Murray style

It’s like little Stevie the race champ said

I ain’t got a dime but at least I ain’t dead

And these memories will beat money by a mile
