I see you see things different to me

I see you see no problem

Behind the eyes that crystalise

And dilate and dilute the conversation

I hear your voice in a different key

Way below my frequency

I tune you in and tune you out

Of this space that I’ve made

A vacuum that you filled too soon

Since I last saw you the gloss has turned to matte

And although you look puzzled there’s a reason for that

For you seem to be mindless of how far you can fall

Add the value of nothing to the cost of it all

And the fact and the fiction are what separate us here

I feel your touch and it’s troubling me

Handshake mediocrity

A token grasp offered way too fast

Far too quick off the mark for comfort

I seek your rage just to know you’re still there

Sometimes to check you still care

I look for clues and look for signs

In the cuts and the lines of this landscape

Let’s escape

So you were given fair warning but you wouldn’t be told

That everything that glitters just simply ain’t gold

And you search around blameless for the answer to ‘why?'

Leaving the ones that adored you hung up to dry

And your conscience and guilt are what separate us here

Heavy band in the middle of your hand

Keeps them all guessing somehow

They don’t understand — it’s not when but now

For down the line and the passing of time

Hears the hum of the crowd

Reduce to a murmur

By indecision

So we plunge headlong into a room full of sighs

Knowing trust is just hope in a different guise

And it seems as though our efforts have all gone to waste

So let’s speak in hushed tones and lower case

For we’re nobodies fools but everyone is fooled round here
