In her town there is a bay

She gets in and floats away

To be herself by herself

As daylight slowly fades

To silvered lemon then ivory grey

Her body aches

Pale feather

These things we gather

Then lose

All for what could be or should’ve been

Here on the earth

For now we will gather

Before we’re apart

You said there’s colour in the dark, oh

Silent steps, creakin' boards

Whispered goodnights through closing doors

But we don’t light candles

And carry them through dark rooms anymore

The silent working world rolls eastward almost palpably

With starlight in a leafless tree

Bringin' out a feeling of eternity at once

These things we gather

Then lose

All for what could be or should’ve been

Here on the earth

For now we will gather

Before we’re apart

Left here to wonder where you are
