When the Lord made me he made a simple man

Not much money and not much land

He didn’t make no banker or no legal charmer

Breaking up the new ground early in the day

Gonna plant cotton, gonna plant hay

Smell of that sweet leaf blowin' through the corn

Life has sure done me right on my blackland farm

From a hollow log

He treat me like a dirty dog
